ALL boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in the Valparaiso and surrounding communities are invited to participate in the local council level competition of the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The event is sponsored by KofC Council 738 in Valparaiso. Winners of the council contest will advance to the Indiana District 6 Challenge (location, date and time to be announced).

The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is a competition designed for players to demonstrate the most basic soccer skill - the penalty kick. At the local council competition, each player will be allowed 15 shots from the penalty kick line (12 yards from the goal). This is fun and easy! Winners progress to the district, regional, state and international levels. See details and rules below.

RULES:

• Contestants must fill out the Entry/Score Sheet and bring proof of age (copy of birth certificate).
• Contestant age is as of SEPTEMBER 1. • Contestants may only enter one council level event. • Boys and Girls compete separately. Each age group competes separately. • Boys and Girls Ages 9-11 use size #4 ball; Boys and Girls Ages 12-14 use size #5 ball. • All age groups kick from the 12-yard penalty kick line. • The goal is divided by ropes into five (5) scoring zones as shown above. The middle section is 5 points. The lower left and right areas are 10 points. The upper left and right zones are 20 points. • For the Council contests, each contestant receives three practice kicks followed by fifteen (15) consecutive kicking attempts. • For the District, Regional and State contests, each contestant receives three practice kicks followed by twenty five (25) consecutive kicking attempts. • For each contest, the most total points wins and advances to the next level contest. • Tie-Breaker (if necessary): Tied contestants kick 3 consecutive times from 3 yards behind the penalty kick line (15 yards); If still tied, contestants will continue to take turns of 3 kicks from 15 yards until a clear winner emerges. |
